Motorcycle road racing is the fastest form of motorcycle racing in the country, a sport that showcases machines of the latest technology, raced by riders who are athletes of a high level. Riders, both male and female, regularly push these highly technical motorcycles over 170 mph, making for an unforgettable fan experience.

The MotoAmerica Championship, premier motorcycle road racing series in the U.S., brings this action to Sonoma Raceway on Aug. 10-11 in five exciting classes.

The high-speed classes include several that will feature racers from Sonoma County - the most prominent being Tyler O’Hara in the Supersport class. Also racing will be Shelina Moreda, from Petaluma, in the Stock 1,000 class. Moreda learned to ride on a dairy farm; she is now a pro competitor and was named a CoverGirl cosmetics model in 2017.

Classes range from the premier Superbike class to the Junior Cup class, where riders as young as 14 years old do battle. A family-friendly event, kids can enjoy carnival games and a Kids’ Zone and get an up-close and personal look at the riders and their rides.

There is even a motorcycle stunt show for all ages to enjoy, and a Learn To Ride program, which will include smaller, kid-friendly machines.

There will also be a “Moto Swap” area designated for motorcycles for sale, open to the public (no dealers, please); swap participants will be offered free admission to the races.

Tickets for the Championship of Sonoma begin at $39 with early bird pricing. Kids under 16 are free with a paying adult. For those looking for the ultimate race experience, VIP packages are also available, including a two-up ride on the back of a MotoAmerica Superbike reaching speeds of up to 170 mph.

Admission is at 8 a.m. and the day’s last race is at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 4:45 on Sunday. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit sonomaraceway.com/events/cycle-gear-championship-of-sonoma.
