Sonoma Raceway toy drive aids needy

Last year, more than 340 Valley kids got presents|

For the 15th consecutive year, race fans and community members can help brighten the holidays for Sonoma Valley kids by donating toys to Sonoma Raceway’s High-Powered Toy Drive.

All toys collected during the toy drive, which runs through Wednesday, Dec. 6, will be distributed to more than 340 children at the raceway’s annual Race to the Holidays Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 9. The children are pre-registered for the party through one of six Sonoma Valley nonprofit youth organizations. New, unwrapped gifts for newborns to 12 year olds are needed.

“We’re grateful to have many of our mentees and their families be included in an event that touches the lives of so many children through generous gift-giving, the performance of holiday songs, and the overall kindness and holiday spirit provided by the thoughtful people of Speedway Children’s Charities at Sonoma Raceway,” said program director at Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Tina Baldry.

Toys are being accepted at the following Sonoma locations:

• Sonoma Raceway, 29355 Arnold Dr., Sonoma, 800-870-RACE, SonomaRaceway.com, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Exchange Bank, 435 W. Napa St., 938-8358, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., exchangebank.com.

• Schell-Vista Fire Department, 23000 Broadway, 938-2633, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Sonoma Valley Fire Department, 630 Second St. W., 996-2102, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gundlach-Bundschu Winery will again support the toy drive at its Bacchus Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to enjoying festive eats from the FigRig in the Old Redwood Barn, guests will also have the opportunity to contribute new, unwrapped toys at the Bacchus Bazaar.
