The season ended Tuesday for the Sonoma Valley High girls tennis team at the Vine Valley Athletic League tournament.

The VVAL tournament was Monday for singles play and Tuesday for doubles. Sonoma players didn’t make it out of the opening round.

On Monday, Petaluma’s Miranda Grevin topped Lily Raaka, 6-2 and 6-3, while Casa’s Samveda Ruk beat Olivia Weisiger, 6-1 and 6-4.

In doubles play Tuesday, Casa’s Samveda Ruk and Ashley Hancock beat Erin Gylfe and Hannah Walton, 6-4 and 6-3, and Justin’s Roses Newell and Bella Rampa topped Eden Scheiblich and Mary Gallo, 6-1 and 6-0.

“This year’s team was a joy to work with, they were truly great girls,” said Coach Mary Kate Dreyer. “They were also very taented. It’s too bad our record didn’t reflect that.”

Last Thursday, Oct. 25, the Lady Dragons lost to Petaluma, 6-1, in their final league match of the season.

The only match Sonoma won was the number 2 doubles team of Reese Dobson and Gallo who beat Petaluma’s Abby Deen and Sophia Ryan, 6-0 and 6-3.

In singles play, Petaluma’s Erika Gilmore beat Weisiger, 6-4, 6-3; Petaluma’s Miranda Grevin topped Audrey Castillo 6-1 and 6-3; Petaluma’s Emma Palmer defeated Raaka, 6-1 and 6-1; and Petaluma’s Amelia Grevin beat Siobhan Hernandez, 6-4 and 6-3.

In doubles play, Petaluma’s Christina Lang and Olivia Peachey beat Gylfe and Walton, 6-4 and 6-4; while Petaluma’s Maddie Peachey and Ellie Hall topped Scheiblich and Lizza Moore, 7-5 and 6-1.

The Lady Dragons ended their VVAL season with a 1-11 mark.

“It’s been a joy to see my players improving over their season, and it’s been a wonderful team to coach,” Dreyer said.
