The Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon tennis team is still looking for its first win in VVAL play.

Last week, the Dragons dropped a pair of matches. Tuesday, Oct. 2, Petaluma beat Sonoma 4-3, while on Thursday, Oct. 4, Justin-Siena took a 5-2 decision.

In the Petaluma match, Sonoma was 1-3 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles play. In singles action, Sonoma’s Olivia Weisiger beat Petaluma’s Erika Gilmore, 6-4 and 7-5: Petaluma’s Miranda Grevin topped Sonoma’s Audrey Castillo, 6-1 and 6-2; Petaluma’s Emma Palmer defeated Sonoma’s Lilly Raaka, 6-2 and 6-2; and Petaluma’s Amelia Grevin beat Sonoma’s Siobhan Hernandez, 6-4 and 6-1.

In doubles play, Sonoma’s Reese Dobson and Mary Gallo topped Petaluma’s Christina Lang and Olivia Peachey, 6-3 and 6-2; Sonoma’s Erin Gylft and Kayla Schmick beat Petaluma’s Abby Deen and Sophia Ryan, 6-1 and 6-3; and Petaluma’s Maddie Peachey and Ellie Hall defeated Sonoma’s Eden Scheiblich and Sami Stubbs, 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4.

“Last-minute roster changes due to injury and illness were our issue today,” said Sonoma Coach Mary Kate Dreyer. “Hopefully we’ll have a full, healthy contingent at our next match.”

On Thursday, Justin-Siena topped the Dragons 5- 2.

In singles play, Justin’s Parvathi Shanker beat Sonoma’s Olivia Weisiger, 6-1 and 6-0; Justin’s Jenna Curtolia defeated Sonoma’s Audrey Castillo, 6-0 and 6-0; Justin’s Priyanka Shanker topped Sonoma’s Lilly Raaka, 6-0 and 6-0; and Justin’s Bella Rampa completed the singles sweep by beating Sonoma’s Siobhan Hernandez, 6-0 and 6-0.

In doubles action, Justin’s Roses Newell and Presely Schultz topped Sonoma’s. Mary Gallo and Reese Dobson, 6-3 and 6-0; Sonoma’s Erin Gylft and Hannah Walton defeated Justin’s Ashlyn Mills and Emilia Pavenstadt, 6-6 (8-6), 2-6 and 6-6 (10-6); and Sonoma’s Eden Scheiblich and Kayla Schmick beat Justin’s Libby Birkbeck and Patrizia Tandinco, 5-7, 6-6 (7-5) and 6-6 (10-8).

The two losses leave Sonoma with an 0-7 record.

“The 2 and 3 doubles teams worked really hard for their wins,” Dreyer said. “Congratulations to them.”

The Lady Dragons will be back in action today, Tuesday, Oct. 9, when they host American Canyon at 3:30 p.m. On Thursday, Sonoma will host Vintage at 3:30 p.m.
