Showing off their new uniforms, and playing with verve and teamwork, the Sonoma High School girls volleyball team fought their way to a comeback victory over former league rival Analy, beating the Tigers 3 sets to 2.

The Lady Dragons actually lost the first two games – first team to win three takes the match – but turned it around with an offense that 'got better and better each game,' in Coach Rand Rognlien's words.

The scores tell the story: 17-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, and the final 15-10.

Kill leaders were Giana Bruton (with 11), Gaby Knudsen (7), Ruby Capriola (7) and Alondra Martinez (6). Marissa White led the serving with 7 aces.

'The home crowd was tremendous and the girls fought all the way back for a great victory over a strong Analy team,' said Rognlien. 'This team has heart and it showed tonight.

'It was an all around great team effort.'

The Sonoma Valley varsity volleyball team now has a 3-1 record in non-conference play. They have their first home conference match today, Tuesday, Sept. 4, against Justin-Siena, beginning at 6 p.m. at Pfeiffer Gym.
