Race fans are invited to enjoy Verizon IndyCar Series cars on track at a free test session at Sonoma Raceway on Thursday, Sept. 6, just one week prior to the Grand Prix of Sonoma race weekend, Sept. 14-16.

Teams slated to participate are Team Penske, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Harding Racing. The test session is FREE to race fans and will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 2.385-mile, 12-turn road course. Race fans can watch the race cars from open seating areas and grab lunch at the Raceway Café. Tickets for the Grand Prix of Sonoma will be available for purchase.

The test day lineup includes Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power, in addition to one entry from Harding Racing.

With two races remaining in the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series Season, Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) holds a slim 26-point lead over Nevada City native Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport). Will Power (Team Penske) sits in third, while reigning champion Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) round out the top five. Dixon, Rossi, Power and Newgarden have each posted three wins so far this season, and with double points on the line in Sonoma, the championship will likely come down to the final lap.

The IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma season finale returns to Sonoma Raceway, Sept. 14-16. The event will mark the 14th consecutive Verizon IndyCar Series event in wine country, and the fourth time the event will crown the series’ champion. It will also mark the last IndyCar event in Sonoma for the foreseeable future, as the series shifts its schedule for the 2019 season.

Tickets are still available, including the Total Access Package, which includes a reserved-seat ticket and a garage/pit/pre-race pass for $99. Kids 12 and under are admitted free and parking is free all weekend. For more information, visit sonomaraceway.com/indycar or call 800-870-7223.
