Sonoma tennis boys top Healdsburg

Dragons only lose six sets|

The Sonoma Valley High boys’ tennis Dragons beat Healdsburg 6-1 on March 19.

The Dragons swept the four singles matches losing only six sets. At number one, Carlos Rubio shut out Healdsburg’s Vikram Johnson, 6-0 and 6-0. At number two, Trevor Griggs-Demmin beat Healdsburg’s Will Hambly, 6-0 and 6-1; while at number three, Erik Serbicki topped Healdsburg’s John Dow, 6-3 and 6-2. And at number four, Sam Weisiger shut out Healdsburg’s Judah Naujokas, 6-0 and 6-0.

Sonoma took two of three doubles matches, losing only the number one slot as Healdsburg’s Aidan Whitlock and Evan Linegar topped Andrew McKale and Reed Hewitt, 6-4 and 6-2. The Dragons took the number two doubles with Silvan Kopp and Max Gustafson beating Healdsburg’s Tony Ibarra and Kevin Trebilcock, 7-6 (10-5), 6-2, 10-7 (tiebreak third set due to time); and number three with Julian Hewitt and Lucas Llodra beating the Hounds Avery Billman and Roan Affronti, 6-0 and 6-1.

The Dragons and Hounds split a pair of exhibition matches as Healdsburg’s Mariano Sanchez and Luca Lumetta beat Rocky Wetzel and Daniel Chavez, 6-3; but Sonoma’s Jackson Zyskowski topped Healdsburg’s Jesus Barbosa, 6-4.

The win gives the Dragons a 1-0 record. Sonoma will travel to Healdsburg on Wednesday, March 28.
