Dragon thinclads at Big Cat Meet

Sonoma Valley High senior Emma Maggioncalda took first place Saturday in the girls high jump at the annual Big Cat Meet at Santa Rosa High School.

Sophomore Luke Sendaydiego was second in the high jump on the boys side.

In addition, Maggioncalda was 11th in the girls 100 meters and Sendaydiego was 10th in the boys long jump.

Senior Amy Stanfield was seventh in the 1,600 meters, eighth in the 800 and ninth in the 400. Sophomore Kaylie Barrera was second in the triple jump and 14th in the long jump.

And the boys 4X100 relay team of Sendaydiego, Gabe Gissell, Jesus Robles and Andy Powers were 10th.

Sonoma Coach Linda Patterson took numerous athletes to the meet.

This year, Patterson is being assisted by Andy Gibson who’s coaching the throwers; Jeff Peterson who’s the sprint coach; Randy Shields who’s the distance coach; Julie Niehaus and Ray Marchbanks who are the jumps coaches.

The Dragons will host junior high day on Wednesday, and then host the Green/White/Black Relays on March 14.

This year, the Dragons are slated to host three home meets – a triangular meet with Healdsburg and Petaluma and April 11; a triangular meet with El Molino and Analy on April 25; and a dual meet with Elsie Allen on May 2.

The Sonoma County League Meet is scheduled for May 12, at Piner while the NCS Redwood Empire Meet is slated for May 19, at Santa Rosa High School.
