Wine Country Games petanque matches

Will be held Sunday at Depot Park|

Sonoma will be the site of the petanque doubles competition in the Sonoma Wine Country Games this Sunday, June 18, at the Valley of the Moon Petanque Club in Depot Park.

Registration will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. with the competition starting at 10. There is a $45 a person registration fee and a $5 sport fee.

There will be three qualifying rounds in the morning in both the Concours division and the Consolate division.

According to the website, the Sonoma Wine Country Games encourages healthy activity and social engagement for anyone 50-plus years old through education, connections, and the spirited competition of sport, inspiring all to take an active role in determining the quality of their aging experience.

The games, which started on June 2, wraps up this weekend.

This year, athletes had 17 sports to choose from including archery, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, golf, handball, lawn bowling, petanque, pickleball, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
