Sonoma Valley sweeps American Canyon in volleyball

The Dragon spikers pinned the AC Wolves in straight sets at Pfeiffer Gym.|

The Sonoma Valley varsity volleyball team put it all together on the floorboards of Pfeiffer Gym last Thursday, Sept. 12, with a decisive 25-15, 25-18 and 26-24 sweep over the American Canyon Wolves.

Leaders for the Dragons included senior outside hitter Gianna Bruton with 9 kills and 0.438 hitting percentage, followed junior setter Sophia Riebli with 20 assists, 7 digs and 3 aces. Senior libero Angelina Carabini had 11 digs and 4 assists.

Sophomore setter Ella Perkins made 19 serves with 2 aces and no errors, including a stretch of 10 straight points in the second set.

“In the third set, I went to the bench to get some of the younger players some experience,” said coach Brian Perkins. “They did well and held of the Wolves for the win.”

The victory gives the Dragons a 3-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Vine Valley Athletic League. Their next opponents are the Vintage High Crushers in a league game at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Crushers currently have a 7-3 record, 1-0 in the VVAL.
