Sonoma Valley Museum of Art’s new online exhibit, “A Sea of Faces/Un Mar de Caras,” features vibrant, colorful artwork by students participating in its Art Rewards the Students (ARTS) program. The exhibition was originally set to take place in the museum March 18 to April 5, but was canceled due to public health and safety restrictions.

The student artwork incorporates metal, paper, clay, plaster, fabric, natural fibers, paints and other materials. Pieces on display include floating kozo paper clouds providing shelter for self-portrait superheroes; jolly jellyfish created from mixed media; portraits that explore how color represents moods; and more.

The exhibition expands each week as more of the student artwork becomes available.

ARTS is an arts education program that brings experienced teaching artists to more than 700 fourth- and fifth-grade students in Sonoma Valley schools free of charge. In the classroom and in the museum, students experience art-making projects themed to SVMA’s exhibitions on view during the ARTS program.

ARTS is funded by Sonoma Plein Air Foundation, the Manitou Fund, and Community Foundation Sonoma County.

SVMA is also providing online programs such as ARTS@Home, art lessons prepared by SVMA arts education staff and teaching artists, for families and children now learning from home. View lessons at svma.org/event/artshome/.
