Teen Services Sonoma had to move both its Work Readiness course and the class graduation to a larger space this fall to accommodate a total of 48 graduates. The graduation was held at Vintage House senior center on Oct. 25. Parents and friends gathered to cheer on the teens as they received their Work Readiness Certificates and enjoyed food prepared by the nonprofit’s Lovin’ Oven offshoot.
The Ready to Work course covers resume creation, personal branding, what makes a good employee, where to look for jobs, the hiring process, basic financial literacy, work and interview attire and hygiene, interviewing strategies and more.
Instructor Jennifer Blackwood explained the course to the guests at graduation and congratulated the teens on the confidence and skills gained.
Among the local companies that turned out at graduation to interview teens for part-time jobs were the Corner Store, the Fairmont, the Girl & the Fig, Granton Insurance, Maranda Ranch Kennels, Nugget Market, Safeway, Silveira Chevrolet, Sonoma Golf Club and Sonoma Gymnastics Academy.
The spring Work Readiness Course will begin in February. Students interested in taking the free course should contact Casey Richter - casey@teenservicessonoma.org.
