A Sonoma man with multiple arrests for driving under the influence, had his bail raised to $100,000 after two DUI arrests in three days.
On June 22, Sonoma deputies responded to a report of a car break-in at the Whole Foods parking lot in the 200 block of West Napa Street. Deputies learned that the suspect, who was intoxicated, broke a window out of a truck and when the owner of the truck arrived, the suspect yelled at the owner to “get away from my truck.”
Deputies arrested Michael Beutel, 66, of Sonoma, on charges of felony burglary and possession of burglary tools.
On July 3, at 10 a.m., deputies found Beutel in the driver’s seat of his vehicle in the 500 block of Second Street West. Witnesses said they saw Beutel attempt to drive. When the deputy approached the vehicle, Beutel took his foot off the brake and the car started rolling. The deputy opened the door and hit the brake with his foot. At the police station, Beutel blew a .28 on a breath test and was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
Two days later, on July 5, also at 10 a.m., deputies received reports of a reckless driver who was now passed out in his vehicle on Fourth Street West and West Andrieux Street. Deputies tried to administer field sobriety tests, but stopped when it was clear to them that Beutel couldn’t safely perform the tests. On a breath test at the police department, Beutel blew a .33. He was again arrested on charges of DUI.
Deputies contacted a judge and asked that because of Beutel’s previous behavior, the bail be increased, and the judge granted the increase to $100,000.

Friday, June 16:
3:40 p.m. – The operators of the Tuesday Farmers Market reported that an envelope with cash and checks was missing from a desk in the office in the 10 block of Spain Street. The envelope was believed to contain between $2,500 and $3,500 in cash and $250 to $350 in checks. There was no suspect information.
11:25 p.m. – A deputy who was stopped at the intersection of Fifth Street West and West MacArthur saw a car blow through the stop sign at Fifth Street West. The deputy started following the vehicle which failed to stop at the stop light at West Napa Street. After pulling the motorist over, the deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The driver claimed he had one beer with dinner, but he did poorly on the field sobriety tests. At the police department, a breath test registered a .29 and a .28. Eric Feith, 42, of Santa Rosa, was charged with driving under the influence and was transported to the county jail.
Saturday, June 17:
10:35 p.m. – Deputies responded to the Valley of the Moon Apartments in the 18000 block of Highway 12 for a report of a fight. When they arrived, they found a victim, bloodied and unconscious, and he was transported to the hospital. The deputies located the suspect who had blood on his hands and clothes. Jose M. Zavala, 34, of the Springs, was arrested on charges of felony battery with serious bodily injury and was transported to jail.
Sunday, June 18:
6:39 p.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun in the vicinity of Fifth Street East and East Denmark Street. Deputies pulled behind a vehicle that didn’t have working brake lights on Peru and Fifth Street East. The driver, who identified himself as James Hayes, said he just bought the vehicle the day before and it wasn’t in his name. But when deputies found a Graton Casino card with another name on it, the man said it belonged to his brother. During a search, deputies found a paint ball gun that could have been mistaken for an Uzi and a fixed blade knife. The man eventually admitted his name was Jesse James Clark, 27, of Santa Rosa. Clark was arrested on charges of felony false impersonation, a probation violation and driving while suspended. He was transported to the county jail.
10:15 p.m. – A deputy saw a vehicle blow through a stop sign on East Verano and Junipero Serra and noticed the driver was arguing with the passenger. when he pulled the vehicle over, the deputy saw the driver had blood on the side of his head and the passenger was crying and was clad only in a blanket. Both parties had been drinking and the driver said he was just trying to get his intoxicated friend – who had two lacerations on his head - home. The driver, David Fockler, 38, of Glen Ellen, was on probation with terms that included not to possess alcohol or to drive with any alcohol in his system. The naked passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Fockler was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and a felony probation violation. Fockler refused a breath test so deputies got a warrant for a blood draw and he was subsequently transported to jail.
Tuesday, June 20:
9:09 a.m. – A horse owner is out $1,200 after an internet scam. The victim was trying to sell a horse for $4,000 and put it on Craig’s List. The victim received an out-of-state text from an interested party who ended up sending a cashier’s check for $5,200 with the instructions to use the $1,200 to transport the horse. The victim deposited the check and was advised by the financial institution to wait at least two days to see if the check cleared. On the third day, the victim paid a third party the $1,200 to transport the horse. But the buyer tested back that because of a death in the family, he wanted to call the deal off. Three days later, the victim found out that the check was fraudulent and was out the $1,200. A deputy tried to track the phone number but found it was a Google number and couldn’t be traced.
