El Verano teen stabbed multiple times while walking to store

Suspects shouted gang slogans before exiting car, pulling knives|

A teenage El Verano boy was stabbed several times on his way to a local store on Monday by three suspects who fled in a car.

According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Sonoma Valley Hospital at about 3:45 p.m. on a report that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed multiple times. The victim, whose name has not been released, told police he was walking to El Verano Market on Bay Street. When he reached the intersection of Railroad and Verano avenues three male suspects in a car asked the boy if he was in a gang. Before the teen could respond they started calling out gang-style sayings. They drove away in a grey boxy-style car similar to a Nissan Cube or a Scion and the teen continued walking.

About two blocks from the market, the teen was in the 19000 block of Bay Street when the same car pulled up quickly. One suspect got out of the right front passenger side of the car and started fighting the teen. The driver and rear seat passenger started hitting the victim in the mid-section with knives while he lay on the ground.

They stole $5 from the victim and fled in the car. The victim was able to walk home where his family helped him. He was treated and later released from the Sonoma Valley Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspects are described as a skinny white male in his 20s, a light-skinned Hispanic male with a ponytail in his late teens, and a Hispanic male in his 20s with a medium build.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene but did not locate the suspects.

Anyone with information about the attack is encouraged to call Sheriff’s Investigations at 707-565-2185.
