Two public workshops, one on “fire readiness” and one on “emergency preparedness,” are coming soon to a middle school auditorium near you. Both of the workshops will be led by 1st District Supervisor Susan Gorin, and will take place at Altimira Middle School.

The first workshop will focus on vegetation management on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. Gorin is bringing together regional government representatives as well as relevant local organizations to provide attendees with an overview of large-scale vegetation management efforts in the state and the county.

“Vegetation management is an incredibly important issue in Sonoma County,” Gorin said. “Property owners, neighborhoods and HOAs, communities, city, county and state government all need to work together and in parallel in order to make a meaningful impact.”

Anyone interested in learning what is being done to improve fire readiness in Sonoma County is encouraged to attend, said Gorin.

The second workshop will be on “community preparedness,” including maintaining defensible space, home hardening, fire-wise landscaping and more. It will be held on Saturday, May 4, at Altimira from 9 a.m. to noon.
