Sonoma County seeks comments on Maxwell Master Plan

Construction on Phase 1 slated to occur summer 2019|

The Maxwell Farms Regional Park Master Plan, an ambitious, multi-phase upgrade of the existing 85-acre park, was recently released by Sonoma County Regional Parks after years of community input and planning.

The Parks Department last week released a draft study of the potential environmental impacts of the proposed plan update for public review. Public comment is sought through Feb. 8. An electronic copy is available at sonomacounty.ca.gov/parks.

Hard copies are on view at the Sonoma Valley Library at 755 W. Napa St. Comments must be submitted in writing by 5 p.m. on Feb. 8 to:

Following the public review process, the Maxwell Master Plan and environmental document will go to the Board of Supervisors for discussion and adoption.

The county’s timeline anticipates that Phase 1 construction documents and bidding will take place from February to June, 2019, and that Phase 1 construction will begin in Summer 2019.

Located outside city limits on unincorporated county land owned by Regional Parks, Maxwell Park features soccer and baseball fields, tennis and volleyball courts, a playground and picnic sites, Macdougald Skateboard Park, the Sonoma Valley Boys and Girls Club, and approximately 2.5 miles of nature trails along Sonoma creek.

The new master plan, formed over the past four years with regular community input and released in November, includes a baseball plaza and upgraded ball fields - including one with lights - seating terraces that are ADA compliant, an off-leash dog area, sand volleyball courts, new soccer fields and concession stands, a “destination play area,” pickleball courts and upgraded court lighting, expanded parking, bio-swales for storm-water treatment, riparian restoration and a PV clean energy system.
