Sonoma elementary school gets new greenhouse

Thanks to Prestwood Elementary parent Seth Maze and his company, GMH builders, along with several school families who donated funds and materials, the MacArthur Street school now has a new campus greenhouse.

“We will use this beautiful new greenhouse to propagate our own plants and seeds as well as maintain weather sensitive plants,” said fourth grade teacher and Garden Club coordinator Emily Brown. “Students will be able to watch plants from seed to harvest.”

Brown said that she hopes this new addition will act as a magnet so that more classes use the garden and greenhouse as a teaching tool.

“Emily has done a great job over the past few years cleaning up the garden area and creating a valuable program for the students at Prestwood,” said Principal Jason Sutter.

Neil Colwell of Well Design created a thank-you sign for the donors who contributed to the construction project.
