Each fall for the past six years, Sonoma Valley Masons have donated Chromebooks or tablets to a Sonoma Valley elementary school. Earlier this month, Masons Victor Hipkess, Stanley Ball and Gustav Hobel met with students at El Verano Elementary School to inform the students that they are the 2018 recipients.

The total value of the donation is around $2,500 each year. For this iPad purchase, the school produced the remainder to enable the purchase of 10 iPads.

“We have one-to-one technology available to our students in grades 2 through 5,” said El Verano Principal Maite Iturri. “The Masons helped us to begin to make this a reality in first grade with this generous donation.”

Next year, Flowery Elementary will receive new education technology equipment.

The Masons in Sonoma Valley also organize a Teacher of the Year award and have a float in the annual 4th of July parade.

The Freemasons are one of the oldest fraternal organizations in the U.S.

Sonoma Valley’s Temple Lodge was founded on May 6, 1851, and its first location was at the southeast corner of Spain and Second Street East. Today, the lodge is located at Broadway and Maple.
