Sonoma workshop focuses on the unique retirement challenges of the childless

Geber believes that without the safety net of adult children, child free boomers and others, aging alone will need a well-scripted plan for their later years|

Sonoma Valley Library will present a workshop on Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The workshop facilitator, Sara Zeff Geber, is the author of the book by the same title, and she is an expert on life planning for people aging alone and those without children.

Geber will share such statistics as that 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day, and that one out of every five has no children. Add to that the ever-growing number of older adults aging alone for other reasons, and the results is millions of what she calls, “solo agers.” Geber believes that without the safety net of adult children, child free boomers and others, aging alone will need a well-scripted plan for their later years.

Zeff Geber is a certified retirement coach, a blogger on retirement for Forbes.com, and the founder of LifeEncore, a retirement coaching consultancy.

Based on five years of research, her workshop, Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers, delves into such details as housing choices, legal documents, financial security, and more.

The event is free. The library is located at 755 W. Napa St.
