Deceased ‘appeared to have been there for some time,’ says Sheriff’s report|

A man’s body was found Sunday morning in a dry creek bed in Kenwood, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday afternoon, he was identified by authorities as Aaron Winokur, 51, of Napa. Winokur’s cause of death has not been determined but his death is not deemed suspicious at this time. The Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies received a call around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 from residents in the area of Griswold Avenue and Highway 12 saying that they had found the body. Deputies responded and, according to the Sheriff’s report, “found the man’s body lying on his back fully clothed.”

“He was in an advanced state of decomposition and appeared to have been there for some time,” continued the report.

Detectives from the county Violent Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit were initially called to the scene to investigate for evidence of foul play; the body was removed by detectives from the Coroner’s Office and taken to the county morgue for examination. According to the Sheriff’s report, the examination found no signs that the man had been killed.

The cause of death at this time is undetermined and pending toxicology results, continued the report.
