Becky Peterson named Sonoma Teen Services ED

Teen Services Sonoma has hired Becky Jo Peterson as its new executive director.

“(Peterson) brings to the position a wealth of experience in the nonprofit world, leadership skills, a business acumen, a collaborative spirit, and a long-time commitment to empowering young people to reach their full potential – all attributes that will further strengthen the programs and activities at TSS,” Teen Services officials said in a press release. Teen Services is a nonprofit that provides work-readiness skills for youth age 14 to 24.

Peterson most recently served as member and community relations director for the Napa Valley Vintners. Her role there included overseeing the organization’s multi-million-dollar philanthropic work and administering educational, networking and member-related programming. Previously, she served as community and industry issues director for the NVV, overseeing legal and social issues impacting the Napa Valley wine industry.

Prior to that, Peterson worked in Mobile, Alabama, as executive director for the nonprofit Distinguished Young Women, a scholarship and empowerment program for high school girls. She helped develop programs focusing on self-esteem, public speaking, making healthy choices and setting goals for life.

“When I attended (Teen Services event) Cowboy Cab last year, I could see the impact that Teen Services has on the community and on the individual lives of youth in the Valley,” said Peterson in the press release announcing her appointment.

Doug Hanford and Judy Scotchmoor, co-presidents of the TSS Board, described Peterson as “a perfect fit.”

Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. She is married to glass artist Ed Edwards.

Teen Services Sonoma is located in Boyes Hot Springs and has been working with Sonoma Valley schools, local businesses and other youth-serving organizations since its launch in 1991. It operates three programs: the Lovin’ Oven, the No Name Café at Sonoma Valley High School, and Operation Bicycle (moving soon to the new Vailetti Plaza). These micro-businesses account for 30 percent of the organization’s revenue and employ 35 to 40 teens each year.
