Seeking spiritual meaning and some peace in this modern, turbulent world? Many people have come into communion with the faith and become Catholics via the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults classes offered by St. Francis Solano Catholic Church in Sonoma.

According to John Bonnoitt, the RCIA classes are for those who are not baptized and have little or no religious background or who were baptized in another religion and would like to become a Catholic. Adult Catholics who lack the Sacrament of Confirmation will be prepared for that sacrament. The program also welcomes “fallen away” Catholics who wish to reconnect with their faith, and active Catholics seeking to refresh their knowledge of church doctrine and tradition.

The program begins in September at St. Francis Solano Church. Classes are taught on church doctrine and history, the Sacraments, Order of the Mass and many other subjects designed to prepare the participants to fully experience the Catholic faith. The class meetings are on Sunday mornings from 9 to 10:45 a.m, followed by Mass at 11 a.m. The eight-month-long program culminates at the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday evening of Holy Week, when participants receive the sacraments of Baptism (for those not already baptized), Confirmation and First Eucharist.
