Shawna Hettrich has been hired by the Sonoma Valley Unified School District to serve as the new vice principal and leadership/activities director at Sonoma Valley High School.

Hettrich replaces vice principal Douglas Watenpool, who left in June. She will also assume leadership activities from former band leader and leadership teacher Casey Jones, who also left at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

Hettrich joins current vice principals Jessica Hutchinson and Aaron Gildengorin, reporting to new SVHS principal Justin Mori.

Hettrich lives in Petaluma. She recently served as activities director with the Novato Unified School District, where she also promoted a GATE clustering model, and led school-wide teacher training on Project Based Learning.

She is the 2016/2017 Golden Bell Award site recipient for Marin County for her work in advocating for positive change with her school’s leadership program.

Hettrich earned her administrative credential and master’s degree from San Francisco State and her B.A. and teaching credential from Sonoma State. Her first day on the job is Aug. 3.
