After hours: SVHS’ Karling Skoglund

Inside a teacher’s life after school hours.|

Karling Skoglund’s parents supported her desire to raise animals on their hobby farm and they nurtured her love for livestock, horticulture and natural resources. She was an avid agriculture student at McKinleyville High School in Humboldt, and went on to major in agriculture science and education at Chico State then to become a high school agriculture teacher.

She was repeatedly warned, “Agriculture teachers are different than other teachers,” and “you won’t have full weekends to yourself but you will have a full heart.”

After 3 p.m. and on weekends she can be found traveling around the state with her students to agriculture competitions, touring colleges, attending FFA conferences and hanging out around the SVHS livestock barn.

Karling is passionate about giving students the support they need to pursue their interests because it was those experiences that helped shape her and inspire her to pass on the love for agriculture.
