Testing: State Smarter Balanced standardized testing starts this week around the school district. Teachers are reminding students to get a good night's rest, eat a hearty breakfast, bring a water bottle and stay hydrated. Also, their charged Chromebook is required for the test. At Sonoma Valley High School, only juniors take the test.

Family day: A free family-friendly event at Jack London State Historic Park will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. The day includes a nature walk, art activities with Art Escape, farm animals, and refreshments. $10 park entry fee required or free with a park pass. RSVP to klanusse@jacklondonpark.com.

Protest: There is a Take Back the Night march starting in front of SVHS on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. The march will go up Broadway and end at the amphitheater.

Day Under the Oaks: Santa Rosa Junior College invites the community to its free Day Under the Oaks on Sunday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 1501 Mendocino Ave.

Earth Day: There is a free Earth Day Festival in Burlingame Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 252 W. Spain St. The event promises something for everyone, young and old, music lovers, foodies, and friends of the Earth.

Paint and Sip: Sassarini Elementary is hosting a Paint & Sip fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Lodge. The cost of $70 includes a glass of wine and painting instruction by an art teacher. Reservations are required, tickets available at Readers' Books. Or online here.

Teacher of the Year: The Masons of Temple Lodge #14 seeks nominations for its Teacher of the Year award to honor an inspirational teacher; deadline is April 30. teacher.templelodge14.com/.

Bike rodeo: There will be a Bicycle Skills and Safety Rodeo and Health Fair on the El Verano campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. There will be free helmets and helmet inspections and free bike checks and repairs.

Job fair for teens: Interested in hiring a teen this summer or employing a recent grad? The Sonoma Valley Youth Job Fair is at SVHS on April 29. Email Wendy Swanson at wswanson@sonomaschools.org.

Art Competition: Young artists, age 5-18, should enter the California State Fair Student Showcase. Divisions range from 3D artwork, textiles, wood, drawing and more. Deadline is Wednesday, May 1. Email StudentShowcase@calexpo.com with questions.
