City accepting applications for commissions

The City of Sonoma is looking for volunteers to fill various city commissions.

Earlier in the year, the City Council identified a need to review their local appointment process for commissions and committees. The City Council approved a new appointment process and it’s being implemented in two phases.

Planning Commission appointments were made in November. The remainder of the Commissions and Committees are being advertised in December 2017 with a January appointment process for a Feb. 1, 2018 start date.

The City is seeking applications for the following commissions and committees:

• Community Services & Environment Commission – CSEC; The panel advises the City Council on matters related to the preservation and enhancement of parks, special events, recreational facilities, open space and the natural environment under the jurisdiction of the City. The commission has seven members with one alternate position. At least five members and the alternate will be registered to vote and live in the city limits.

• Design Review and Historic Preservation Commission – DRHPC; advises the City Council on matters related to the preservation and enhancement of parks, special events, recreational facilities, open space and the natural environment under the jurisdiction of the City. Seven members with one alternate position. At least five members and the alternate will be registered to vote and live in the city limits.

• Cultural & Fine Arts Commission – CFAC; develops and establishes a balanced arts and cultural program for the City. Each year, they select and honor the “Treasure Artist of the Year” and sponsor the “Student Creative Arts Awards” program providing cash awards to deserving students. Seven members with one alternate position. At least five members and the alternate will be registered to vote and live in the city limits.

• Traffic Safety Committee: Reviews complaints and suggestions submitted by residents regarding traffic safety issues. It advises the City Council on all physical measures proposed as solutions to those issues. Five members with one alternate position. Four members and the alternate will be qualified electors of the City and one member may be resident of Sonoma Valley,

Applications can now be submitted electronically through the City’s Civic Web Portal, sonomacity.civicweb.net.

You can access the application by clicking on the “Commission Application” tile. To complete an application, complete the on-line form. Once you are done, click Submit to send your form directly to the City. Aattach a copy of your resume to your application before submitting. Paper applications will still be accepted and are available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, No. 1 The Plaza.

Individuals who are interested in applying, or current members that would like to be reappointed, are encouraged to apply by submitting an application. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 3, 2018.
