Winter break camps in Sonoma

Spots around town and nearby to amuse your kids while school is out|

Winter break is great. It’s fun to have the kids home all day and it’s a nice chance for families to have some down time together. But kids get bored and sometimes, parents’ work schedules don’t coincide with school vacations.

As of right now, at least three organizations are offering sports camps during the weeks that school is on break in Sonoma Valley, and Sonoma Ecology Center is offering a nature camp.

Nature

Need some extra time to finish cleaning up after the holidays, or just want to get the kids out of the house over winter break? The Sonoma Ecology Center (SEC) has you covered at its Winter Day Camp, held this year at Jack London State Historic Park (as Sugarloaf is still closed due to the wildfires). On Wednesday, Dec. 27, SEC education staff will lead kids, ages 7 to 12, in a day of fun, learning and outdoor activity. The camp is based on SEC’s summer Creek Camp, with a nature hike, viewing the sun through solar scopes, and learning about the creatures of the park. Runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $45, or $35 for SEC members, Sugarloaf Park or Jack London State Park pass holders or for a second child from the same family.

Mornings from 9 a.m. to noon and full days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuition is $130 for half days and $190 for full days (with discount for Presentation and St. Francis students). The camp is open to grades 3 to 5 and grades 6 to 8. The program is designed to help children have fun, learn skills and be ready for the upcoming basketball season.
