A whole range of activities is planned for Sunday’s open house at Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the firehouse, 630 Second St. W.

The morning will start with a pancake breakfast fundraiser.

Sonoma Raceway will be collecting non-perishable food items for the raceway’s 17th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. All food items will be distributed to two Sonoma County food banks - Friends In Sonoma Helping (FISH) and the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa. In addition, Sonoma Raceway will accept toys for its 14th annual High-Powered Toy Drive. All toys will be distributed to more than 250 children at the raceway’s annual Race to the Holidays Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 9. New, unwrapped gifts for newborns to 13 year olds are needed.

The official Sonoma Raceway NASCAR show car will be on display at the open house alongside numerous fire safety activities.

The City of Sonoma joins with Art Escape for the “The Love In The Air Community Heart Art Project” for children to color hearts that will be displayed during the civic ceremony in the Plaza on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Kids Scoop will have a “Special Thank You to First Responders Project” where kids can write thank-you notes to first responders. These notes will later be posted on the tree trunks in the southeast quadrant of the Plaza.

There will be an information board on display with large fire maps from last month’s fires. Fire officials are hoping to have representatives from FEMA in attendance to answer questions

Other activities include learning hands only CPR; learning how to operatue a fire hose; learning fire safety; child ID cards and fingerprinting and vision screening. PG&E will have information about gas and electric safety along with various other information booths. There will be face painting, balloons and Jumpy Houses for children.

And, there will be fire engine rides for kids of all ages, and the opportunity to meet local firefighters.
