99 percent containment on Sonoma County fires

Firefighters Monday morning have achieved 99 percent containment of Sonoma County wildfires, according to Cal Fire.

Full containment was expected later this week on the Tubbs, Pocket and Nuns fires, said Will Powers of Cal Fire.

The fires have burned more than 110,000 acres and killed 23 people.

Fire officials in the last few days have reported one percent containment improvements on the march to having the massive fire zones fully encircled with hard, cold fire lines.

Inside the circle, many hot spots remain and firefighters are on patrol for signs of smoke.

“We have people out, crews are out on the line, doing mop up, checking for hot spots, securing the lines,” said Powers.

The Atlas, Redwood and Sulphur fires, in Napa, Mendocino and Lake counties, have recently been fully contained.
