Evacuation orders and where to find shelters in Sonoma Valley

City of Sonoma evacuation centers at the High School and Prestwood Elementary; Altimira is also being used for evacuees from SDC.|

Two evacuation centers are open in Sonoma, one operated by the City of Sonoma at the Sonoma Valley High School, and one by the owners at Ramekins on West Spain St.

A second City of Sonoma evacuation center was opened at Prestwood Elementary at noon. The City has put out a call for volunteers to help at these centers. Interested volunteers should go to the Sonoma Community Center to register.

Mandatory evacuation has been ordered for Sonoma Valley area of Mission Highland, Norrbom Road, and Gehricke Road areas. The Sonoma Valley High School is a designated evacuation location.

Voluntary evacuation has been urged for the downtown area of Sonoma from Napa Street/Highway 12 to north of the city limits, according to the City of Sonoma Facebook page.

Police scanners reported at about 9 a.m. that the Sonoma Developmental Center on Arnold Dr. was being evacuated. Residents are being sent to Adele Harrison Middle School for temporary shelter.

Monday afternoon the Sonoma Valley School District announced that classes would be suspended for Tuesday, Oct. 10, due in part to the role the three schools are playing as evacuation centers.

Hanna Boys Center, also on Arnold Drive, is under evacuation orders as well. The Sonoma Sheriff's Dept. reports Arnold Drive to the State Hospital and west of Jack London State Park is under evacuation.

The Valley of the Moon Children's Home and Los Guilicos Juvenile Detention Center, both in Sonoma Valley, have been evacuated, as have Sutter Hospital and Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has also called for mandatory evacuations for Roberts Road, Lichau Road, Pressley Road, and Sonoma Mountain Road, on the west side of Sonoma Mountain between Bennett Valley and Cotati.

All schools in the Sonoma Valley Unified Schools District will be closed on Monday, October 9.
