La Luz fundraiser brings in nearly $450,000

La Luz’s ‘Noche of China Moon’ fundraiser an eye-popping extravaganza|

Guests donned traditional Chinese outfits – or Sonoma versions of such – and enjoyed tasty Asian cuisine at Noche of China Moon, the La Luz Center’s annual fundraiser which took place Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building.

Around 300 attendees were dazzled by modern Asian dance, a parade “dragon” and “floating” sky lanterns – and reminded of some of the good works of La Luz by emcee and board chair Marcelo Defreitas, as well as three generations of the Chavez family – Sal Chavez is also a member of the board – plus center director Juan Hernandez. Preliminary totals from La Luz show the event raised about $450,000 to further the center’s outreach and services toward families and residents throughout the Sonoma Valley.
