Yong Liu and Nancy Cline honored by Sonoma Valley Hospital

Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation has changed the physical venue for its annual Celebration of Women event to a virtual one. The Foundation is planning a video rollout on its website, svhfoundation.com, on Thursday, May 14.

The Foundation’s 2020 Pulse Award recipients are Dr. Yong Liu and Nancy Cline.

Nancy Cline and her husband Fred moved to Sonoma in 1989. They raised their seven children on the family ranch in southern Sonoma which now is best known as Cline Cellars Winery, Jacuzzi Family Vineyards and the Olive Press. Cline is president of the John Christopher Bunting Foundation and has been active in supporting numerous nonprofits in Sonoma Valley as well as Sonoma County, including Sonoma Valley Hospital, Vintage House, Mentoring Alliance, Sonoma Sister Cities, Vintners & Growers Alliance, Boys & Girls Club, YWCA, Northbay Learning Foundation, Sonoma Community Center, the Fund for American Studies and the Sonoma Valley Historical Society.

Dr. Yong Liu immigrated to the United States in 1984 after graduating from medical school in Shanghai, China. She then earned a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco. She practiced as a clinical pharmacist for several years at San Francisco General Hospital, and then completed internal medicine residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center and has practiced as a board-certified internist in Sonoma since 2001.

She currently serves on the Sonoma County Medical Association’s board of directors and has served as a volunteer physician for Broadway Under the Stars.

The Celebration of Women event is an annual fundraiser for Women’s Health and Wellness services at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Proceeds raised during the virtual event will be applied to the purchase of a diagnostic coil that is used in MRI breast imaging, as well as supporting the ongoing Project Pink program that provides free mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured.

“Our event has clearly evolved into something different than we originally planned, but we are very excited to be honoring both Dr. Yong Liu and Nancy Cline via our ‘virtual’ event,” said Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation president David Pier. “We look forward to the community’s continued support for Women’s Health and Wellness services at our hospital.”
