On Jan. 27, Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an 8:10 a.m. call to investigate an arson report on Calle del Monte. Deputies were told a suspect was near the scene, where a red Mustang parked in front of a residence caught fire. The suspect was arrested shortly afterward with a lighter in her possession, and blisters and burn marks on her hand, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

Lisbet Ruiz-Mondragon, a 19-year-old local resident, was arrested on felony charges related to arson; bail was set at $20,000. Some of the charges have been reduced to misdemeanors but she has other cases pending in the court system, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, a Sonoma Police deputy on patrol in the area of East Thompson Avenue and Highway 12 saw three young men walking together, sporting gang colors. He thought he recognized one of them as a previous suspect in gang-related behavior and stopped to talk to the young men – all three were juveniles. During a pat search, occasioned by his suspicion of their behavior, he detected a cylindrical object at the right side of the belt of the suspect. He lifted the boy’s shirt and saw the handle of a kitchen knife, which was determined to be about 12 inches in length. The boy was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, or dirk, and taken to juvenile hall.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, operating on a tip from the Marin County law enforcement that a recently-released sex offender had not registered in that county as required by law, deputies located Jose A. Garcilazo, 28, at his place of work near Third Street West at about 8:30 a.m. Garcilazo is registered in Sonoma County so deputies were able to locate him at his place of employment. By law, felony sex offenders must register upon release from jail in the county if they were incarcerated for a period of 30 days or longer. Garcilazo had not done so and was arrested and returned to custody.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, a deputy on patrol near Sierra Drive at 1:05 a.m. saw a man riding his bike in the opposite direction of traffic, a violation of the vehicle code. The bike rider turned out to be on pre-trial release for several charges including felonies stemming from an alleged burglary the previous month. As such, he was subject to a search, which turned up a can of Steel Reserve malt beverage in his possession in violation of the terms of his release. Joseph Jacb Wolfenden, 25, was re-arrested and booked at county jail on felony violation of probation.
