A 60-unit affordable housing project has been proposed for 285 Napa Road – and project developers are holding a community information meeting about the proposal on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sonoma Community Center.

Habitat for Humanity officials will present the nonprofit’s draft concept for the potential development, answer questions from the public, and solicit potential homeowners in preparation for its next round of applications. They will be contacted when Habitat announces their next Information Meeting.

David Brigode, senior project manager for Sonoma County’s Habitat for Humanity in Santa Rosa, told the Index-Tribune in September that, while no formal proposal has been submitted to the county, he wanted to float a “trial balloon” about the project to gauge community reaction.

Brigode described the project as “approximately 60 units of self-help affordable home-ownership housing,” possibly completed in phases.

Habitat for Humanity describes itself as a “global nonprofit” which partners with families in need of housing to “build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.”

The meeting will include information and history about Habitat for Humanity, a description of the project on Napa Road, information about homeowner eligibility, a timetable for the project and questions and answers.
