While this popup will be expensive, it might well be worth it for those who are interested. On Thursday, Sept. 14 Santé Chef de Cuisine Andrew Caine will create a five-course dinner to be paired with new releases and single vineyard library wines from Kosta Browne, which specializes in pinot noir and chardonnay wines.
Dan Kosta and Michael Browne were working as sommeliers and saved tips to buy half a ton of pinot noir grapes, a used barrel, and a hand-crank crusher to start their winery 20 years ago. They now search throughout California for the best pinot grapes to make their wine in the Russian River Valley.
For dinner expect canapés of Kumamoto oyster martinis, eggplant caviar, and Sonoma duck leg confit croustades. The first course will be wild salmon and leek terrine; followed by chanterelle and summer truffle risotto; seared loin of lamb with fennel fondue and organic chickpea purée; Bleu du Bocage cheese with roasted almonds, local honey and truffle toasted baguette, topped off with Kosta Browne Pinot Noir-poached figs with Farmstead Sheep's milk cheese mousseline, all served with Kosta Browne's best known wines. $400. Reception 6:30, dinner 7 p.m. 220 Morris St., Sebastopol. Reservations at 939-2407.
Kendra Kolling, known as the Farmer's Wife with her fabulous grilled cheese sandwiches and breakfasts and other healthy food at several farmers markets, just announced the “coming soon” of her first “brick and mortar” location at the Barlow in Sebastopol. She plans to feature her breakfasts, sandwiches, Acre Coffee, and paleo and gluten-free dishes.
Kendra really is the “farmer's wife,” married to Paul Kolling, who bought a farm near Sebastopol in 1984 and planted and grows organic Gravenstein apples on 350 acres in the area, resulting in the organic Nana Mae's apple juice and apple sauces. Supposed to open this fall. Is that now?
