Sonoma library offering portable audiobooks

Sonoma library now offers ‘Playaways’ portable media players for free check-out.|

You can carry a small, electronic book in your pocket with Sonoma County Library’s new portable media players: Playaways.

Each device comes preloaded with an audiobook and the library is currently offering more than 110 titles, including Spanish selections.

The lightweight devices are only a few inches in size and give listeners the freedom and portability to listen to everything, from bestsellers to new releases anytime, anywhere. Content is available for children, youth and adults in a range of genres.

Playaways make technology accessible, promote literacy and bridge the digital divide, allowing library cardholders to try an audiobook without the internet or an app. Library patrons checking out a Playaway will need their own earbuds or headphones and an AAA battery. Earbuds are available for purchase at all Sonoma County Library branches for a nominal fee.

Playaways can be checked out for three weeks with a Sonoma County Library card. To check out a Playaway or see what titles are available, visit the Sonoma Valley library branch or go to find.sonomalibrary.org and search “Playaway.”
