Food: It’s Father’s Day, Sonoma – and Dad’s hungry!

Poor dads!

Remember all the fuss we made over Mother’s Day and restaurant specials?

Not so this Sunday, June 16, for Father’s Day.

But there is a lot more to honor or to do for Dad, including nothing exceptional if that’s what he prefers. Go for a special walk or hike, cook his favorite foods, give him a plant he can see and nurture all year, take him on a mystery trip anywhere, ranging from the Russian River to Paris. The Russian River is open again and the waters have calmed, although caution is always good. Paris is open too.

The restaurants that responded to requests for Father’s Day specials seem to think of dads as intense carnivores:

Sonoma Springs Brewing Company just teamed up with Palooza Gastropub to create a five-course meal paired with five Sonoma Springs brews in their Riverside Drive brew house on Saturday, June 15.

Brewmaster Shawn Whittaker will be there to “talk beer” and answer any questions. Guests will also be the first to try a special limited release beer before it hits the taps.

The Palooza menu will include passed appetizers of pickle chips with sweet malt aioli with sips of Sonoma Springs Kolsch, followed by Noma Weiss with smoked corned beef croquettes with a spicy sauce, and a third course of a lobster roll and smoked pork ribs with Palooza slaw. Their “sweet finish” will be B.A. Russian Imperial Stout with a Russian stout milkshake. $65. Two seatings at 5 and 7 p.m. Tickets at brownpapertickets.com.

Tips Roadside in Kenwood offers the only special menu for Father’s Day that we found, and it sounds relaxing and fun for everyone. Their first course will be garden salad and corn on the cob, followed by beef brisket and pork spare ribs, plus sides of potato salad, mac ‘n’ cheese, and apple slaw. All this will be followed by the grand finale of fruit cobbler.

Guests can upgrade their meal with wild boar sausage or fried chicken for $9.50 each. Bottomless beer runs $10. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets $39 at tipsroadside.com or 509-0078. 8445 Sonoma Highway, Kenwood.

Most other restaurants that serve on Sundays will serve their regular menus.

Cochon Volant chimes in with tons of brisket, ribs and pork.

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn will offer a “burger and buckets of beer special” at its Water Tower Bar. Fairmont chefs will also grill lamb burgers and beef burgers as well as a great veggie burger poolside.

Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Grill & Martini Bar will offer their regular menu and add a “big juicy T-bone steak with potato-cheese croquettes, veggies and Bordelaise sauce” according to co-owner Karen Bertrand. 13670 Arnold Drive, Glen Ellen. 996-6409.

Sonoma Mountain Beef Co.
