Food: The finest in Thanksgiving takeout

Take it easy on Thanksgiving – order your feast ‘to go’|

Don’t want to cook for Thanksgiving? Who says you have to?

If family traditions don’t dictate that you must, you can skip the whole thing and give thanks for being alive in whatever way you might like.

Or, you can order and pick up a full traditional, vegan, vegetarian, or Hanukkah dinner where someone else did all the work and you just have to reheat the meal. Here are some take-out possibilities, but be sure to read the fine print on extras or sides where they might be sold separately.

Glen Ellen Star

Ari Weisswasser, owner of Glen Ellen Star, is still taking orders for take-home Thanksgiving dinner. Mixed chicories salad with candied pecans and shaved persimmon with Roquefort dressing; wood oven roasted Brussels sprouts; spatchcocked Willie Bird turkey with fingerling potatoes, chestnuts, and gravy; sourdough stuffing with mushrooms, and mire poix; cranberry compote, maple syrup and orange zest; sweet potato pie and housemade vanilla maple bourbon ice cream are all in the menu package. $50 per person, minimum of eight people (minimum $400). But think about what it would cost to shop and prepare (and clean up) that dinner at home. reservations@glenellenstar.com before Saturday, Nov. 17. Pick up Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 13648 Arnold Drive, Glen Ellen.

Sonoma Market

According to its website, Sonoma Market offers the same meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas as “Traditional Holiday Meals.” They also offer a vegan holiday meal.

A small turkey or a small ham dinner serves four to six people and costs $99.99. The whole meal is fully cooked but comes cold at pick-up in reheatable packaging. Options for both dinners include vegan traditional stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegan roasted sweet potatoes with Macadamia nuts, green bean casserole, turkey gravy, cranberry orange relish, and butter and egg rolls.

The large ham or turkey dinners serve eight to 10 people and offer several of the same side dishes as well at $169.99. Reserve online at sonomamarket.net and pay in store with pick-up.
