Coastal Cleanup day in Sonoma

California Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup, is the state’s largest volunteer event. Each year, tens of thousands of volunteers across the state remove millions of pounds of trash and recyclables from state beaches, lakes and waterways.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, at locations throughout Sonoma Valley, volunteers are invited to clean up the headwaters of Sonoma’s coastal streams. The Valley cleanups are organized and led by Sonoma Ecology Center at the following locations:

Fryer Creek: meet at back parking lot of Safeway, 477 W. Napa St.

Nathanson Creek: meet at Nathanson Preserve Demo Garden, corner of E. MacArthur St. and Second Street East.

Sonoma Creek at Maxwell Park: meet near Boys & Girls Club inside Maxwell Regional Park, 100 Verano Ave.

Sonoma Creek at Larson Park: meet at Larson Park, 329 DeChene Ave.

Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to noon, and are asked to wear comfortable closed-toed shoes, layered clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, and to bring work gloves, extra plastic bags if you have them, and your own water. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
