Local author Arlene Rubens Balin will read from her latest book, “The Shimmering Face of Evil” on Thursday, June 12, with a 6:30 p.m. reception before the 7 p.m. presentation.

“The Shimmering Face of Evil” is the sequel to her book “With Intent to Murder.” This time Inspector Max Hamilton, the intrepid hero, faces his next case in London.

These English murder mysteries are inspired by Balin’s love of the genre. She is a native San Franciscan who now lives in Sonoma with her husband Kon.
