Mi Ranchito Mexican Restaurant and Cantina has two locations, one in Cotati and one in Santa Rosa. Come February, the young extended family that owns the popular eateries hopes to open the doors to its third location, right here in Sonoma Valley.

According to co-owner Yesica Garcia, 28, the lease has been signed on the old Plaza Tequila location at 19315 Highway 12 and work has begun on the interior of the restaurant.

“Depending on the permit process, we hope to open late next month,” she said on Wednesday. “We have a little bit of work to do to the place and we want to add some Mi Ranchito touches to the space.” The space is 4,100 square feet and also has a large patio area.

Garcia will co-own this outpost of Mi Ranchito with her brother, Christian, 36, and her husband, Jaime Rodriguez, 40.

The Cotati location of Mi Ranchito opened at 7600 Commerce Blvd. in 2008 and the Santa Rosa location (which is owned by Jaime’s brother, Luis Rodriguez and his wife Erika) opened at 90 Mark West Springs Road in 2017. Both specialize in traditional Mexican cuisine and margaritas.

The Santa Rosa and Cotati locations are praised on Yelp for their happy hour and Thirsty Thursday special and their Tequila Club.

“We’re excited to have a restaurant in Sonoma Valley,” said Yesica. “We love the town, we think this is a great location and we’re excited to spread our name there.”

Plaza Tequila was owned by Luis Angel Acosta Ruiz. The restaurant opened in 2010 and closed in mid-2017.
