‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ opens in Sonoma

The Tony-award winning “Peter and the Starcatcher” is this year’s Sonoma Arts Live’s Teens N Training production. The play upends the century-old story of a miserable orphan who becomes “the boy who would not grow up” – aka, Peter Pan.

The theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s “Peter and the Starcatchers” book was written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker. The play explores depths of greed and despair, and bonds of friendship, duty and love.

“‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ features marauding pirates, jungle tyrants, unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes,” says Libby Oberlin, Sonoma Arts Live’s Teens N Training Director and the owner of the Theater School.

“This show offers actors the opportunity to portray bold characters in a production that is ensemble-based and beyond creative,” she added. “The incredibly versatile cast of 13 talented teens are working meticulously to master each nuance.”

“Peter” features more than a dozen actors portraying over 100 characters, donning wild costumes, bounding up and down on planks and platforms, and spinning around on wheeled baskets.

“Each of our dedicated TNT actors has created a distinctive and fun character, while working together on one of the most ensemble-driven plays we’ve ever produced,” says Oberlin. “Come see the show and support the future of live, local theater.”

The show runs in Andrews Hall in the Sonoma Community Center for eight shows, March 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17, at 7:30 p.m. and March 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available by phone at 866-710-8942 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday or in person at the box-office one hour before each performance. Tickets can also be purchased in the Community Center office.
