On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Ukrainian folk choir Kolyada makes a rare appearance at the Pueblo Serena clubhouse.
The concert is being produced by Sonoma resident Tarney Baldinger. Baldinger’s daughter once studied in Kaniv, Ukraine, as an exchange student. It was a life-changing time for both student and mother.
While visiting her daughter, Baldinger discovered the music of the area. “The music is truly heavenly,” Baldinger says. So much so, in fact, that Ukraine calls itself “the Singing Nation.”
The Ukrainian folk choir Kolyada (which name means “folk music”) and the Ukrainian folk duo Okxana and Svyatoslav Stus will perform.
The event is a fundraiser for hospital equipment and to aid veterans and their families in Kaniv.
There will be food, arts and crafts and, of course, the lovely music.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and will be at 951 Fifth St. W. in the Pueblo Serena mobile home retirement community in Sonoma.
Admission is by donation.
