Oscar viewing party at Sonoma’s Sebastiani

Cinephiles and stargazers are invited to the Sebastiani Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 24, for a live screening of the 91st Academy Awards.

There will be a red carpet, thick with local celebrities, fun contests and a raffle with prizes. Attendees will enjoy beer, wine, appetizers and dessert, with proceeds from ticket sales benefitting the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation’s fundraising efforts.

Black tie attire sets a festive tone, though guests are also encouraged to come dressed in character. Think slouchy crooner a la “A Star is Born,” or Elizabethan courtesan in a nod to “The Favourite.” With this year’s Academy Award-nominated movies ranging through centuries, genres and themes, choice of attire is limited only by imagination. The best costume of the night - chosen by a panel of local judges - goes home with an “Oscar.”

The doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the red carpet party starts at 4 p.m. The awards shows beams in from Hollywood live at 5 p.m., and wraps after the Best Picture of the year is announced.
