Sonoma Speakeasy closed through Jan 1

Owners plan for big remodel and to reopen after holidays|

In other live music news, the Sonoma Speakeasy and American Music Hall on the Plaza will be dark through the end of the year.

Owner Jodi Stevens issued this statement: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Speakeasy will be shut down until after the holidays. We are going to turn this into a positive and get our big remodel under way. We will be bigger and better than ever. Our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this caused you. We value your continued support and look forward to celebrating our grand reopening together.”

When Stevens first took over the long, rectangular space from previous owner Eric james, the stage was placed awkwardly in the corner, making playing music and dancing cramped and restricted. She moved the stage to the far end of the room, brought in her own sound system, and a cozy performance place was born. She has continued to make subtle improvements to the space.

At the time, she told the Index-Tribune that she had a few more ideas to make it even “a little more fabulous.”
