He’s a Magic Man

Magic has come a long way since the days of rabbits, hats and slicing audience members through the torso. Magician Kevin Blake will demonstrate just how far we’ve come in his one-man show, “Magic Man,” which folds stories, spoken word and music elements into an unforgettable evening of illusions, magic and miracles. Presto chango, indeed.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 7:3 p.m. at the Sebastiani Theatre. Age 15 and over. $25, proceeds go to the theater.

Takes a Village

No one does small-town charm quite like Glen Ellen. And the Valley’s village to the north will redefine “quaint” this weekend with its 28th annual fair – a rockin’ family friendly party featuring 80 booths, food, beer, wine and music from Rich Little, Long Story Short, the Poyntlyss Sistars and more. And if you think there won’t be a salute to “all of our Glen Ellen heroes” from the fire, you don’t know small-town charm.

Sunday, Oct. 14, noon to 5 p.m. Downtown Glen Ellen

Second That ‘Emotion’

Nothing says DIY like a “live canvas” – which is what the Sonoma Garden Park transforms into this weekend with “Color of Emotion.” Wriggle into white painters gear, grab a brush, some paint and decorate yourself as part of “an emotional exploration” in commemoration of last year’s fires.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. at two locations, see B10.

The Other Joplin

Before there was jazz, before there was rock – there was ragtime. And the “ragged” rhythms will be jangling again as part of this weekend’s Wine Country Ragtime Festival. The foot-stompin’ early 20th century form runs Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reel; Saturday, 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Oakmont; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sonoma Marketplace; Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sonoma Valley Library; and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Maysonnave House; plus Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sunrise Villa.
