Artist Jack Lutzow will teach a five-week class in water-based media, called “Visual Fundamentals,” starting Saturday, July 11, at Studio 35, 35 Patten St., Sonoma.

This class meets once a week, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. It will cover specific important aspects of painting including composition, analysis of painting light, use of color harmony, three-dimensional rendering and methods of applying paint. The class is $125; students will be given their list of supplies to bring to class once they register.

Lutzow began painting as a teen, and went on to graduate from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Taken under the wing of Sir Peter Nuyttens, an internationally known portrait painter and etcher, Lutzow continued his studies with a Bauhaus influence at the Institute of Design in Chicago. Lutzow has exhibited in galleries across the country, from San Francisco to New York.

He has worked for design firms and Fortune 500 clients and received commissions from the likes of Hallmark Cards, Portal Publications, Better Homes and Gardens, and Hilton Hotels, to name a few.
