New Jen Cole exhibit at Sonoma Community Center

‘A Life in Prints’ opens March 5 with Art Walk reception.|

A new gallery exhibit titled “A Life in Prints” will open at the Sonoma Community Center on March 5.

The exhibit of the work by Jen Cole featuring a variety of mono prints, etchings and collagraph works by artist Jen Cole. The exhibit will open Thursday, March 5 with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the Chamber of Commerce’s ArtWalk. The exhibit will run March 5 to 28. The artist will give a brief talk about her career and work at 6 p.m.

The show will feature colorful, graphic, abstract prints - primarily monotypes and etchings embellished with multimedia techniques - from the artist’s extensive body of work.

Cole worked as a fine arts printer for about 10 years after completing her graduate work at San Francisco State University. She is currently going into her 10th year as an Artist in Residence at Kala Art Institute.

“Jen brings tremendous expertise and a special way of combining printmaking techniques that achieves unique and pleasing results,” said Liz Treacy, arts education manager at the center.

Cole will also teach a one-day Mini-Mono Print Workshop on Saturday, May 30, in the center’s print studio. To register, visit sonomacommunitycenter.org.

Additionally, the Community Center offers Printmaking Open Studio Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Experienced printmakers are invited to work in mono printing techniques alongside trained studio monitors. Artists can purchase a 10-hour card in the office to begin work.
