Their signs have popped up along Leveroni Road near Four Corners and along Arnold Drive near Petaluma Avenue. The new olive tree nursery, Olives Unlimited, offers olive trees for purchase, for landscape, commercial and agricultural purposes.

The nursery is owned and operated by longtime olive tree growers Armando Herrera and Jordan Ruiz. They can help design and select some “majestic beauties” (the name of an olive tree cultivar with upright, open crowns that don’t produce fruit) for a patio that won’t be messy. Or, for a new olive orchard, they can help plan tree spacing, deliver, install and even harvest the first crop.

Long-time residents of Sonoma, Herrera and Ruiz have more than 30 years combined experience propagating, growing, maintaining and harvesting olive trees.

Olives Unlimited carries almost 20 different olive cultivars (varieties), from the ancient, gnarly, well-established trees that are often seen featured in showcase entryways, to the lesser-known Leccino cultivar, commonly grown in Tuscany, producing a delicately flavored olive oil.

The company transports and installs trees all over California. Ruiz noted that the Mediterranean climate and landscape in the Valley make it a perfect spot for olives.

The nursery’s trees are available from 5-gallon containers on up to 5-foot boxes or more.

The new Olives Unlimited grove is at 19500 Cypress Rd. in Sonoma. The company is open to the public by appointment only. olivesunlimited.com.
