New winery to open in spring at Sonoma’s Bartholomew Park

While the Bartholomew Park Winery will close its doors for good at the end of October, sometime in early spring, the historic winery inside Bartholomew Park will re-open for business with a new name: Bartholomew Estate Winery.

Under the direction of veteran Sonoma winemaker Kevin W. Holt, the winery will produce and sell all-new wines, made entirely from the park’s organic vineyards.

Visitors will be able to purchase the wines at the newly remodeled tasting room, the new winery website (currently under construction), or via the re-imagined wine club.

The Bundschu family ran the winery operations at Bartholomew Park for more than 20 years, but chose to end its long-term lease earlier this year.

Spokespersons for Bartholomew Park, run by a foundation created in 1990 to preserve and protect the historic site, told the Index-Tribune they were comfortable with the withdrawal of the Bundschu Company.

“We’re all parting as friends,” said Bartholomew Foundation trustee Anna Pope.

“The decision to part ways was a mutual decision between Bart Park and Bundschu,” said Alison Seibert, publicist for a number of wine labels, including Gundlach Bundschu and Abbot’s Passage, a new label launched by Katie Bundschu.

Winemaker Kevin Holt plans to bring wine production back to the park in subsequent vintages. He said that he is also working closely with Pope, to create an enhanced visitor experience to pair with the new wines.

Bartholomew Estate Winery is at 1000 Vineyard Lane.
